The old Devon fishing village of Hallsands, an impressive 22 bedroom hotel and two remarkable, outstanding fisherwomen Ella and Patience Trout. This unique play opens in 1975 in the Trout’s Hotel, which has been closed to the public for 16 years. We meet Edie, the last remaining Trout sister who lives here alone by choice, hanging on to the past and the life she knew.
The play flashbacks to her parents William and Liza, raising their four daughters in the old Devon fishing village of Hallsands. Following the arrival of Sir John Jackson’s shingle dredger in the bay, we witness the family living through the slow destruction of their cottage by the sea. We meet the daughters Ella and Patience Trout, two exceptional hardworking fisherwomen and follow their amazing lives. They dig footings, make concrete blocks and build and run an impressive hotel for 30 years, overlooking the sea at Hallsands. A story of endurance, perseverance, ambition, extraordinary success and final disintegration. NOT TO BE MISSED!
